Destiny 2’s Season of Defiance is soon coming to a close, and while the main narrative was wrapped with the Retribution mission, players still had one big update to look forward to before Season of the Deep makes its debut in the form of the mid-season patch. This big update didn’t live up to many Guardians' expectations, however, due to the plentiful issues that popped up after its inception and the fact that some of the biggest changes were left out of Bungie’s patch notes, including nerfs to mods and Strand. Despite the recent problems and community morale, starting soon is the Guardian Games event that typically takes place in spring and sees all threeDestiny 2classescompete in an Olympics-like contest that every year sees one of them take the podium and all the glory.
SinceDestiny 2’s Guardian Games eventuses each individual player’s contributions as a means to account for how many tokens each class gets, the 2023 edition could already have a clear winner. While last year’s Guardian Games edition was taken over by Warlocks for the first time in the event’s history, this year doesn’t look like it’ll involve a lot of competition, as the community has already decided who should win. Based on many players' comments on social media, it looks likeDestiny 2’s Guardian Games 2023 will be an easy win for Titans.

How Destiny 2’s Community Intends to Honor Lance Reddick
Maybe unsurprisingly for some players, Titans are garnering the biggest representation ahead ofDestiny 2’s Guardian Games for this year, and the main reason is that Guardians want to honor their beloved commander, Zavala. This is because earlier this year, back in March, came the news thatCommander Zavala’s voice actor Lance Reddick passed away, leaving a major vacuum in the gaming industry, among others. Known as the voice behind Horizon’s Sylens as well asDestiny 2’s Zavala, fans have been expressing their support non-stop since the news, and many have been talking about how Titans should rally for Guardian Games.
Given how manyDestiny 2players honored Lance Reddick’s Commander Zavala once the news broke, going all the way to gathering fellow Guardians for a reel of in-game emotes, it only seems fit that the community is banding together once more ahead of the event. In its current iteration, the Guardian Games event awards players with medals based on their class and an array of factors ranging from the type of activity completion to gun or ability kills.
This means that players can rep the Titan flag quite easily, and it can even have various beneficial side effects, such as making it easier for Guardians to complete class-specific challenges and runs inDestiny 2’s Root of Nightmares Raid, among the other endgame activities. With Strikes and Grandmaster Nightfalls also providing a bunch of medals upon completion, players can stack them with ease before depositing them at the Tower. As much as Warlocks might want to chase a consecutive win and Hunters might try their best to win, the community seems set to see Titans take this Guardian Games edition for themselves - and Zavala.
It remains to be seen whether Titans will indeed win the event, butDestiny 2’s communityis known for its ability to join under one big flag, and there is no better cause than to honor Commander Zavala’s role in the game by making him proud. Looking at Bungie’s community-focused history of making Eververse content, there’s also a chance that new Zavala emotes will see the light of day. But for many Guardians, the biggest achievement would be to see that golden lion in the Tower for a whole year.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
