Players will finally be able to obtain one of the most legendary weapons inWorld of Warcrafthistory, as an upscaled version was recently unearthed on the Public Test Realm. In terms of villains that have come to defineWorld of Warcrafthistory, most fans would agree that Arthas Menethil, Illidan Stormrage, and Garrosh Hellscream stand at the very top. Each of these characters were defined by their powerful presence, as well as the iconic weapons they wielded in battle. Though players could earn the Warglaives of Azzinoth inThe Burning Crusade, the definitive versions of Frostmourne and Gorehowl were never made available.

Gorehowl played a key part in the marketing campaign forWarlords of Draenor, as the axe of Grommash Hellscream featured heavily throughout the expansion. Players hoped that it would follow the Warglaives of Azzinoth and become a rare legendary drop, but the idea never materialized. Similarly,Frost Death Knights inWorld of Warcraftcould reforge the shattered Frostmourne and wield the Blades of the Fallen Prince as their Artifact Weapons inLegion, but the real Frostmourne remained out of their grasp.

With the launch of Patch 10.1.5,World of Warcraftplayers will finally be able to earn the Gorehowl wielded by Garrosh Hellscream during his final moments. They will no longer need to settle for the corrupted version with Xal’atoh from Siege of Orgrimmar, nor the low resolution skin dropped by Prince Malchezzar. Though Wowhead isn’t able to pinpoint the source of the drop thus far, all signs point towards the weapon being attainable through the new Dawn of the Infinites megadungeon.

In the upcoming megadungeon forWorld of Warcraft, Alliance players will square off against Grommash Hellscream, while Horde players will face Anduin Lothar on the battlefield instead. Since cross-faction groups have been added to the game,World of Warcraftcharacters of any factionshould still be able to claim Gorehowl in the event it only drops from the fearsome Warsong chieftain. After all, it wouldn’t make much sense for a proud orc warrior to be unable to wield the axe that laid the foundations of Orgrimmar.

World of Warcraftis available now for PC.
