In an interview with Beyond The Trailer’s Grace Randolph, Zack Snyder happily obliged when asked about a number of topics related toZack Snyder’sJustice League, one of which notably addressed whether or not the film would remain in the canon of the current DC Extended Universe (or DCEU). Since a great many changes were reportedly implemented once director Joss Whedon took over production, there could potentially be some lore-breaking differences between the director’s original vision and the end product released in 2017.
During production of the film, a tragic family emergency forced Snyder to remove himself from the director’s chair. Whedon took the helm and began arranging re-shoots and working with existing footage to create the version of the film that eventually ran in theaters. Many fans of DC Comics and films (particularly Snyder’s past work) were rather displeased with the finished product, and rumors quickly began to circulate that a secret “Snyder Cut” of the movie existed somewhere. In May 2020, Snyder officially confirmed the cut’s existence, further announcing that it would bereleased on HBO Maxin 2021.
